They are idling-away, waiting for a new crew to drive them up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Two PRR passenger cars await reconditioning on the other side of the mainline. Description:  Station. Here is the first of two original photos that I took near the Pennsylvania Railroad's Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on the afternoon of 11 December 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #2424, a "U Boat" whose road number is not recorded, #2243, and #2286. #2424 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2243 is an EF-22 built by EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #2286 is an EF-25 built by EMD in 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They are about to pass under the 12th Street Bridge with a long string of brand-new PRR covered hopper cars. The train two tracks over is the mail/express train headed by PRR engine #5900; it is stopped for a crew change. The Passenger Station is visible on the far right, adjacent to the parking lots filled with cars belonging to merry Christmas shoppers.

Description:  E&M. Here is an original photo that I took at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Juniata E&M Shop Yard in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during April of 1966. Visible in the foreground is the trusty E&M turntable ~ witness to steam and Diesels alike. Beyond the turntable are the eastern side of the E&M Shop, some of the tracks from the Shop to the turntable, as well as five locomotives built by several different manufacturers ~ including Baldwin, ALCo, EMD, and GE. Two PRR engines are identifiable: #2428 and #2649. #2428 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2649 is a GF-25 built by General Electric in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower.

No date or location was given for the photo but Warren Evans supplied some insights. With the loco behind marked "PC", this has to be after 1968. Also, although not yet marked, it is technically PC C425 #2445. Thanks, Warren, for you help..
