Coal Power. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Erecting & Machine Shops in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 June 1953. Prominent here is engine #436, a B-8A (0-6-0T) switcher built in these very Shops as a B-8 during August of 1912, rebuilt as a B-8A (tank) in June of 1924, and retired in October of 1956 after 44 years of faithful service. |
