CNW 7009 is the star of Diesel Days 2023
...for me, at least. This is one of the newest additions to the IRM collection; rescued from the NRE boneyard at Silvis, IL in the late fall of 2022. It was quickly returned to operational condition, with some touch-ups to the paint and the application of new cab-side heralds and a C&NW-appropriate 3-chime Leslie horn. Some say the SD50 isn't worth preserving because it was a relative lemon of a unit from EMD. I vehemently disagree, first off the fact that this unit survived for so long in C&NW colors without being repainted alone makes it worth preserving, second it makes a worthy partner with the 6847 in recreating the ubiquitous multi-unit EMD lashups that diesel-era C&NW railfans remember from the early 1980s through the falling of the flag in the mid-'90s.

Max Koehn General I couldn't agree more! It's why I drove down to attend the event! 8/17/2023 11:33:16 AM
Josh Wagner General I wholeheartedly agree! I live in CA, and even though the SD50 didn't do so good, I was happy to hear this guy got preserved! 2/17/2024 2:40:56 AM
