PRR Shakedown Run, c. 1946
Baera HC. Here is the sixth of twelve original photos by an unidentified photographer that were taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1946. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5372, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during May of 1924 and retired in 1955 after 31 years of faithful service. Perhaps it's just been refurbished in the Juniata Shops, and is on a shakedown run up "The Mountain" and then back down to Altoona for its next revenue assignment. (Track 2)
