| Long before a GP38 wore the number 449, this 2-8-0 Consolidation had the honor. Built by Burnham, Wms & Co (Baldwin predecessor) in December of 1900 as UP #1669, it was a Vauclain compound Consolidation. that was simplified sometime between 1903-10. The loco was renumbered to UP 449 in 1915. After nearly 54 years of service, the loco was "vacated" (retired and scrapped) in April of 1954. Rebuilt specs - 57" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 21x30" cylinders, engine weight of 187,891 lb, tractive effort of 39,458 lb. No location or photographer was listed for this photo.
