DMIR 2-8-8-4 #231 - Duluth, Missabe & Iron Range         
The DMIR were so impressed with the first eight 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone type steam locomotives from Baldwin in 1941, they ordered another set in 1943. This one was built in January of 1943 (serial #64710) and lasted nearly 19 years in heavy iron ore drag service before being scrapped in 1962. Specs - M4 class, 63" drivers, 240 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 699,700 lb, impressive tractive effort of 140,000 lb. There was no date, location or photographer listed for this photo so an approximate date and location were used.
