BM 2-8-4 #4023 - Boston & Maine
An unknown photographer captured this Boston & Maine 2-8-4 Berkshire #4023 with its unique "cobar-hooded" shaped circular water heater in front. Built by Lima in September of 1929, the Berkshires in general were not well received by the B&M due to numerous problems with their trailing truck and articulation "wiggle". After serving nearly 26 years, the loco was retired and scrapped in August of 1955. Specs - serial #7377, class T-1-b, 63" drivers, impressive 240 psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders, engine weight of 403,000 lb, tractive effort of 68,990 lb. Unknown photographer
