PRR 6168, J-1, c. 1953
Here is an original photo by Douglas C. Jones that was taken just to the East of the 7th Street Bridge in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1953. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6168, a J-1 (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during September of 1944 and retired in October of 1957 after just 13 years of revenue service. In this context, it's pulling a mixed-cargo freight train out of the Classification Yard and will soon climb the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West.
