Newark. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken in Newark, New Jersey, on 30 April 1956. The photographer is not identified. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4873, a GG-1 (2-C-C-2) built in Juniata during January of 1939 and rated at 4,620 horsepower. In this context, it's passing through South Station with a southbound passenger train. ("Stoneborobranch"; #8 of 11)

Tom Beckett General That G was one of the last to run, going to NJDOT, eventually NJ Transit, as part of the group numbered 4872-4884, that remained in service til the G's quit in October 1983. 11/4/2020 5:51:57 AM
