PRR I-1S, "Decapod," c. 1944
iLocomotives. Here is an image that was taken in Windber, Pennsylvania. Shown here is a Pennsylvania Railroad Class I-1S (2-10-0) "Decapod" steam locomotive doing everyday pickup-and-delivery tasks in downtown Windber sometime during World War II. Note the wartime slogan painted on the N-5 cabin car: "Buy War Bonds." The photographer's name, the locomotive's road number, and the exact date are not recorded. Many thanks to Mr. Robert Hess for identifying this locomotive correctly.

Robert Hess General This certainly appears to be an I1s or I1sa, with five sets of driving wheels (no trailing truck). The flat sided 90F82 tender also appeared with all of the I1s engines when built. 1/24/2022 10:22:43 PM
