PRR 8659, AS-18AM, 1965
Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during August of 1965. The photographer is not identified. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8659, an AS-18AM built by the American Locomotive Company in January of 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. In this context, it's parked near the 17th Street Bridge in Juniata. Visible in the near distance (L to R) are the concrete slabs of the East Altoona Roundhouse, the Power Plant building sans smokestack, the Wreck Train in yellow, and the Eastbound Coal Train Classification Yard. Visible in the far distance is the East Altoona Coaling Tipple. ("LouisFols"; #4 of 26)
