"Steam Rules The New York & Long Branch," Page 42, 1955
Here is page two of a seven-page camera study entitled "Steam Rules The New York & Long Branch." It was published originally in the January 1955 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 42. Photo Caption: "It could pass for the 'Spirit of St. Louis' in olden times but on Labor Day, 1954, it's K-4's 5412 and 1120 on Train 711 ~ 16 cars of beachcombers rolling down to the shore. Highball!" Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5412 and #1120. Both are K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacifics." #5412 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in February of 1927 and retired in March of 1956. #1120 was built in Juniata during July of 1917, streamlined in 1940, and retired in December of 1954. Notable here is a map delineating the route of the NY&LB.
