PRR 9611, AF-16, c. 1955
Altoona Action. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, perhaps during 1955. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9611 and two more "AF" Class units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by the American Locomotive Company. #9611 was built in May of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966 after just 15 years of revenue service. They have just passed under the 12th Street Footbridge and are on their way to the Eastbound Receiving Yard with a mineral train. The structures in the background are part of the PRR's 12th Street Car Shop complex. The exact date is not recorded.
