CO 2-8-4 #2716 - Chesapeake & Ohio
Good looking 1944 Also built 2-8-4 Kanawha (C&O's name for Berkshires) pulls away from the coaling tower in the Cincinnati yard. In the background sits the reason for the demise of steam - an EMD diesel. However, this loco was one of the fortunate ones. It was saved from the scrapper's torch and currently is owned by the Kentucky Railroad Museum. It has been partially rebuilt for service as of 2001. Specs - K-4 class, 69" drivers, impressive 245 psi boiler pressure, 26x34" cylinders, engine weight of 460,000 lb, tractive effort of 69.368 lb. C.W. Jernstrom photo
