| Winter Day. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during February of 1966. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #7262 and three other units whose numbers are not recorded. All were built by EMD. #7262 is an EFS-17M built in 1959 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. They are about to pass under the 4th Street Bridge and into the Eastbound Receiving Yard with a fully-loaded coal train. The westbound train of empty hopper cars pulled by engine #6046 is on the next track over. Visible in the distance is the 7th Street Bridge; beyond the Bridge are some of the PRR 12th Street Car Shop buildings. The venerable black water tower ~ last vestige of the Age of Steam in this part of town ~ stands guard on the right. Photo taken from the 4th Street Bridge. |
