PRR 2400, AF-24, 1963
Tipton. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Tipton, Pennsylvania, on 04 August 1963. Shown here are PRR engines #2400 and #2238. #2400 is an AF-24 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1962 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. #2238 is an EF-22 built by EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. They are about to pass over the grade crossing in Tipton with a mixed-cargo freight train on their way to Altoona for a climb up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West.
