Putting it away  Contributor's Pick!
WABH 11 puts its train away, spotting cars to be picked up by the road trains to be taken to far away places. Note the signal mast: it is now bereft of signals. This mast once carried the distant signal for CP Johnson(formerly West BD), where the old DLW tied into the Tier, an arrangement completed by the Erie and Lackawanna in 1959. Now there is one long block between BD and Johnson. In a few more years, the mast itself will come down, and one of the more recognizable parts of the EL in Binghamton will be gone. The Erie freight house, at right, will last til 1999 before it, too, becomes a memory.
