C&O 2-8-4 #2711 - Chesapeake & Ohio RR  Contributor's Pick!       
Rather than calling this beautiful 1943 Alco built 2-8-4 a "Berkshire", the C&O instead labeled them "Kanawhas" after the Kanawha River which ran next to the main line. Specifics - K-4 class, 69" drivers, impressive 245 psi boiler pressure, 26x34" cylinders, engine weight of 460,000 lb, tractive effort of 69,368 lb, scrapped by 1961. Arthur B. Johnson photo
