D&M 8  Contributor's Pick!
Detroit & Mackinaw #8 is an 0-6-0 switcher. She was built by Baldwin in 1914 for the Michigan Alkaline Co. where she worked until her retirement in 1959. After being retired, she was sold to a scrapyard in Alpena, MI, where she remained until 1969, when she was purchased by the Detroit & Mackinaw Railroad. The D&M used her for Employee excursions and other special ocassions until 1979, when the railroad donated her to the Henry Ford museum. I am sure that this locomotive will run again at some point in the future, but for now The Henry Ford has no plans for her, and she sits on display in Greenfield village, next to the roundhouse.
