The Changing Face of Aussie Rails  Contributor's Pick!
Australia is undergoing a major change to its locomotive fleet as a continuous stream of new high horsepower units are delivered to the country’s major operators. Here two Downer-EDI built GT45C-ACes (LDP-009 and -004) are trailed by UGL-built C44ACi 6007 as they bring Melbourne-Brisbane train 6MB7 upgrade out of Yass Junction. Unfortunately for railfans these units bump a menagerie of older models, some of which date back to the 1950s. While surely in need of replacement, they will be missed. As for QR National, it has also announced that it will become Aurizon Ltd (“Australian Horizon”) in the near future in order to better reflect its continent-wide service.
