Amtrak 649 and 639         
Amtrak 649 and 639 both SDP40Fs in Phase III Paint departing on time with a 21 car steam heated Northbound Silver Star, Train 82/92 at Raleigh NC on New Years Day on 1 JAN 1982 at Sunrise--Bright as a Morning Star, on what be their last year of revenue service. Amtrak 649 was the last SDP40F and leading one of the last two steam heated passenger consists in America out of the four needed for The Silver Star. BTW - Amtrak 649 and 639 were eventually assigned to non- revenue service on the NEC out of IVY City in Washington DC until 1983.
