Bernie Feltman General If I'm not mistaken, the track in the foreground served the beer distributor to the back of the photographer. To the left, the old passenger shed remains still standing used to cover a track that also crossed the Central of Georgia forming a double track diamond on both railroads. Today, after signals have been installed, only the CSX and NS main tracks remain at the single track diamond 7/6/2010 10:00:44 AM
Hank Stephens General Originally...back in the mid-60's... The two cabs sitting (maybe on the old cinder pit track) or by the old cinder pit track were used on the 'Opelika turn'.... Opelika to Atlanta. One was living quarters...one was road service. My father(flagman) and Jack Bell(conductor) shared the cab together for over a year until dad got the 208/209 run ....they stayed on the cab every Tuesday and Thursday night if my memory serves me correctly...the would leave Montgomery by car early Mondays then sleep Opelika Tuesdays and Thursdays...home Wednesday (when there was no hvy ot)..then home late Friday night. Don't know where the engineer and fireman stayed during the week. For a while the turn originated out of Atlanta.they stayed in Atlanta yard in the same cab, but later management moved them to Opelika and added a Atlanta local..I believe it worked as far south as Newnan. 7/8/2010 12:37:13 AM
Hank Stephens General GP-38 2717 was power for the Johnny Ray on this day.. They were making up their train for their trip to LaFayette on the Lake Track. Notice that tthere were 3 tracks whyere ther is only the L:ake Traxck now. WofA Hack 151 ( I believe this was Dan Lucas's Dad's Hack ) sitting in the old Ash Pit Area. I seem to recall that it had been sold to an individual and was awaiting for them, to move it. ( I have heard rumor of a Caboose being used as a back water cabin on Lake Harding but I have not learned the location of it. Also part of the old WofA train shed is still standing. Time frame was 85-86. 7/8/2010 12:38:32 AM
