MP GP18 1862
Missouri Pacific 1862 was built in 1960 as the 4809, one of 24 GP18's constructed using components from the railroad's two dozen FT units as trade-in credit. These 24 units were built with high noses, and this one subsequently received a factory low nose, "torpedo tube" air reservoirs so it could get a larger tank and, like most MP geeps, a 4-stack exhaust manifold. The 4809 was subsequently renumbered 513 and then 1862. It was retired in April 1984 and sold to Precision National Corp. in July 1985. The photo was taken at the former MP-T&P yard in Alexandria.
