GM&O 950
Leading this GM&O northbound extra through Granite City is what I believe was the first SD40 ever built. Originally EMDX 434, she was sold to the GM&O as their 950, and was later ICG/IC 6071. Date of photo approximate.

Ron Moraca General Remarkable photo, Mike!!!! Became EMD #434, which was very first SD40 testbed, built on SD35 frame Jul 64 to test 16-645E engine. Became IC #6071 (SD40-2R). SD40-2R is IC model designation for rebuilt locomotive from Paducah Shop. SD40-2R model is former SD40 model rewired to Dash-2 electrical standards by VMV at Paducah during 1995, during which dynamic brakes were removed. 8/26/2009 12:29:45 AM
