Both were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as BP-60's for passenger service and rated at 3,000 horsepower each; both were later regeared for freight service and reclassified as BH-50's rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #5822 was built in February of 1948 and retired in April of 1962 after just 14 years of revenue service. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5822, another "Centipede," and a Baldwin-built switcher whose road number is not recorded. Both "Centipedes" were constructed by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as BP-60's for passenger service and rated at 3,000 horsepower each; both were later regeared for freight service and reclassified as BH-50's rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #5822 was built in February of 1948 and retired in April of 1962 after just 14 years of revenue service.
