Description:  East Altoona. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide (converted to B&W) by an unidentified photographer that was taken in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 13 April 1957. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1517, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during 1918 and retired in February of 1958 after 40 years of faithful service. William P. Description:  Here is page 23 of a 40-page booklet published by Harry P. Albrecht entitled "A Picture Study Of The K-4." First issued in October 1967, revised in September 1976. Section Caption: "On The Horseshoe Curve." Photo Caption: "No. 15 ~ Fast Mail doubleheaded westbound on the Curve. Engines 1517 and 262 ~ about 1922." Both of the locomotives pictured here are Pennsylvania Railroad K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacifics" built in Juniata. #1517 was built during May of 1918 and retired in February of 1958, while #262 was built during May of 1918 and retired in March of 1952. Partially visible at the right is the Kittanning Point Station.
