It wasn't too hard to figure out the previous identity of Avondale Shipyard Inc. NW2 4583. The NW2 was serial No. 5834, built in November 1948 as Southern Railway 2273. It was later renumbered 1064 -- which was still in the number boards on the headlight casing -- and it was one of two Southern NW2's sold to Avondale in 1980. That's the Huey P. Long Bridge on the right. |
