Album Info:These are two fairly nice older b&w photos of Union Pacific 2-8-8-0 "Consolidation Mallets".

Title:  UP 2-8-8-0 #3630
Description:  Built by Alco-Brooks in August of 1920 as UP 2-8-8-0 compound Consolidation Mallet #3630 (serial #61920, class MC-3), the compound Mallet was a very effctive helper locomotive for long drags of cars over the western mountain ranges. UP decided to simplifly the loco in June of 1937. The loco lasted in service another 12 years before being retired in February of 1954. Simplified specs - new class SA-C-3, 59" drivers, 218 psi boiler pressure, four 23x30" cylinders,impressive tractive effort of 99,840 lb. An unknown photographer took this photo. No date or location was given but it appears to be Pendleton, OR, from other info that came with the photo. Date is approximate.
