Album Info:
Here are 28 postal cards and other illustrations of various Pennsylvania Railroad-related subjects. All of them come from the estate of Mr. Henry C. Westenberger, an avid collector of railroad memorabilia. A lifelong resident of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, he was also a member of the Lebanon County Historical Society. I purchased all of these items in a single eBay auction on Sunday, 8 July 2018.

Here is a postal card from the Henry C. Westenberger Collection. Postmarked: 24 August 1912. Title: "Logan House and P.R.R. Station, Altoona, Pa." This was the site of the Loyal War Governors' Conference, 24-25 September 1862. During this Conference, the governors of 14 Northern States not only reaffirmed their support to pursue the War of Succession, but also voiced support for President Lincoln's "Emancipation Proclamation."

It was constructed in just two months: April to June of 1897. To the right of the railroad bridge is a portion of the Lincoln Highway Bridge linking the same two locations. Description:
Here is a postal card from the Henry C. Westenberger Collection. No Postmark. The photographer is not identified. Photo Caption: "Pennsylvania 4579. The Pennsylvania Railroad had 598 Class I Decapods on the roster. Of these, Baldwin built 475 locomotives, numbered 4225 thru 4699. One of these, the 4579, is seen backing a hopper in the Sandusky, Ohio, yard on a September 1950 day." PRR engine #4579 is an I-1SA "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during September of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in February of 1936, and retired in 1955 after 32 years of faithful service.

Photo Caption: "LIRR 39. 4-6-0 No. 39 takes on water at Hicksville, N.Y., during a fan trip on June 5, 1955. In 1980, the Class G-5s locomotive was undergoing extensive restoration in Riverhead for future rail excursions." Long Island Rail Road engine #39 is a G-5S (4-6-0) "Ten-Wheeler" built by the Pennsylvania Railroad in Juniata during May of 1929.

New York & Long Branch train with K-4 5406 out of South Amboy, N.J., under a shower of cinders, passing 5367 on the layover track, for a trip to the Jersey Shore." Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5406 and #5367 are both K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacifics." #5406 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during February of 1927 and retired in February of 1958, while #5367 was built in Juniata during May of 1924 and retired in October of 1956.

Revised Photo Caption: "Locomotive Number 4920, a GG-1 Class Electric of the [Penn Central Railroad], powering an Express Train near Trenton, New Jersey, in August of 1968." #4920 is a GG-1 (2-C-C-2) built in Juniata by the Pennsylvania Railroad during July of 1942, rated at 4,620 horsepower, and acquired by the Penn Central in February of 1968.
