Album Info:Without a doubt, one of the most beautiful train stations in the United States is located right in the center of the country-Topeka, Kansas. It's not the Amtrak depot (nothing against that one), but the Union Pacific station, downtown. Opened in 1927, the station's massive scope and grand architecture encapture the days when railroads were the finest way to travel in the United States. It last served passenger trains in 1971, was abandoned by Union Pacific in 1989, and was severely damaged by a fire in 1992. Fortunately, a group renovated it, restoring it back to its 1927 glory. Now, the station is a museum, the home of the Kansas Hall of Fame, an event center, and a great spot for watching Union Pacific trains. If you are ever in Topeka, be sure to come visit!

Great Overland Station
Title:  Great Overland Station
Description:  This station is Topekas most historic! The Santa Fe also had a Harvey House in town, but it was torn down for a newer, smaller station built in the 1950s, leaving this as the sole example of Topekas large stations.

Great Overland Station
Title:  Great Overland Station
Description:  Abandoned in 1988 and severely damaged by fire in 1992, this station was bought by Railroad Heritage, Inc., and beautifully restored. Reopened in 2004, the station now houses a railroad museum, the Kansas Hall of Fame, and an event center.
