Album Info:Here are four photos of Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4315 ~ an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" ~ pulling a southbound mixed-cargo freight train on 5 May 1957. All of these photos were taken by Dr. Philip R. Hastings, and come from a color slide set entitled "Steam on the Pennsy's Elmira and Shamokin Branches" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (350-75-0785).

Description:  Decapod #4315. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Philip R. Hastings that was taken near Fassett, Pennsylvania, on 5 May 1957. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4315, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during December of 1922, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in July of 1941, and retired in October of 1959 after 37 years of faithful service. It's pulling a southbound mixed-cargo freight train as it passes FASSETT Tower. Looks like this train has just begun to cross from one track to the other. Also note the round position-light signal. This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Steam on the Pennsy's Elmira and Shamokin Branches" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (785-5).

It's pulling a southbound mixed-cargo freight train as it travels North of Troy. Also note the coast-to-coast tender and the "doghouse." This photo comes from a color slide set entitled "Steam on the Pennsy's Elmira and Shamokin Branches" that's produced and distributed by Blackhawk Films of Davenport, Iowa (785-6).

As it's entering Leolyn, this southbound mixed-cargo freight train is slowing down so that the fireman can snare the train orders being held in the air by the railroader in the foreground. Also note the semaphore signal.
