Description:  Beautiful looking 1908 Alco-Brooks built ten wheeler stopped at the Fruitvale station in Oakland, CA. Note the two boxcars to the side. The cost when delivered was $14,397. A highly detailed note on the back of the photo states "Western Pacific The Scenic Limeted, 10 wheel locomotive - 4-6-0 - No. 79, 1-D&RGW-Baggage, 1-W.P.-Baggage, 1-D&RGW-Coach, 2-Sleepers, 1-Diner, 1-Obs. Sleeper, At Oakland (Fruitvale Station) Calif" Specifics - TP-29 class, 67" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 21x26" cylinders, engine weight of 181,000 lb, modest tractive effort of 29,093. Description:  Here is a fine example of a 1931 Baldiwn built 2-8-8-2 Chesapeake-type locomotive, although this website doesn't have that choice under Baldwin configurations. Specifics - M-137 class, 63" drivers, 235 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders (4), engine weight of 665,100 lb, impressive tractive effort of 137,174 lb, The entire class of M-137 were scrapped in the early 1950's after Western Pacific tested the EMD four-diesel-set and then immediately purchased them, one of the very first class one railroads to switch to diesel power. No photographer listed. Date and location are arbitrarily set as none were given but based on Nick Chillianis comment below, the date has been reset to correspond to the production date.

Description:  According to the WP RR History Online website and ALCo records, this little 0-6-0 switcher was built by Alco in September of 1909 and served until being sold for scrap to the Luria Brothers of San Francisco, CA, in June of 1951. Specifics - serial #46498, class 151 (S-31), 51" drivers, 20x26" cylinders,tractive effort of 31,200 lb, original cost of $11,616, disposition price, $3,783 . No date, location or photographer was listed for this photo.
