CA 2-6-0 #2401 - Chicago & Alton
Title:  CA 2-6-0 #2401 - Chicago & Alton
Description:  This Mogul type locomotive, built by Burnham, Wms & Co in 1899 for the Chicago & Alton, sits outside the Joliet roundhouse. Specifics - originally built as a class F3 Mogul with 57" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, compound 20x28" cylinders, engine weight of 159,800 lb, tractive effort of 30,710 lb. In the 1920's, they were refitted with 62" drivers with a loss in tractive effort. The class of locomotives was simplified later, restored 57" drivers and reclassified as K-18. Most of the class was either sold off when B&O took control or scrapped before the 1940's. I could not find the disposition of this loco. No photographer listed.
