Title:  Wood & Steel
Description:  While the museum was reorganized cars, 409’s pole snagged the overhead supporting wire. The crew on the roof is working to secure the loose pole, as 308 and 309 are being put away after revenue service. This incident allowed this unique shot to be possible. Both the CA&E 300s and the Met L car are wood bodied with steel under frames while the 409 is steel construction however all these cars have wood and canvas roofs.

Title:  Illinois Central #2804
Description:  Originally built by the Pullman Car Company in 1926, this car was typical of coaches purchased in large numbers during the 1910s & 1920s. However these cars were soon rendered obsolete with the arrival of new streamlined cars in the 1930's. This car was then modernized to continue operation with newer equipment. After rebuilding it operated on Chicago to New Orleans train the Panama Limited. This is paraphrased from plaque on the car.

Description:  End of the line. This flatcar started its life at CB&Q’s Havelock Shops in May of 1942 as CB&Q #92108. It and the rest of the class FM-14, CB&Q #92075 – 92349, spent its early days transporting fuselage sections for the Boeing B-29 bomber under special hoods referred to as “Bomber Boxes.” After a life in general service it was converted to an MofW flat #968362 and its deck was equipped to handled Univan containers. After the BNSF merger several MW cars came to the museum. This flat, along with a CB&Q boxcar, a GN tank car and Northern Pacific baggage car arrived in January 1998. The #968362 was used to store the remains of 1895 flatcar CTA #S-212 but never really found a purpose in IRM’s collection. It is sitting the de facto scrapping area on the curve leading to Yard 14.
